Ryan Rowland-Smith To Punch His Way Into Astro’s Rotation

Perfect Punch: Ryan Rowland-Smith

MMA Trainer and FOX Sports personality Jay Glazer is working with MLB pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith to sure up his spot in the Astro’s Starting Rotation for the upcoming season.

Rowland-Smith was signed by the Astros in December after the lefty was non-tendered by the Seattle Mariners. Their loss is definitely the Astros gain, because Rowland-Smith is storming back from his 2009 Bicep injury and his 2010 lower back problem which landed him on the DL.

Glazer is quickly becoming known for his ability to change a player’s mental approach to their sports. He trains them to think like cage fighters whose only way to victory is destroy the will of their opponents. When the cage door closes there is only one way out as the victor. Rowland-Smith’s training has been nothing less then fierce and thanks to MMA training, his size won’t be the only thing intimidating the opposition.

Rowland-Smith’s conditioning regiment will serve him well throughout the season. Seldom has a pitcher dedicated himself to off season workout which will so thoroughly ready his body for so much more than is required to start every 5th day. Clay Matthews of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers recently said about Jay Glazer’s MMA training, “you’re not putting 405lbs on your back, squatting, putting all that pressure on your back, your knees, your joints. You know with this right here I feel my body transforming without using weights, in ways that I haven’t seen before.” Matthews is one of the toughest guys in the NFL and now understands how training as a fighter gives him a competitive advantage over his peers.

For Ryan Rowland-Smith, this perhaps, will be even more effective since this type of training won’t expose that golden arm to the rigors of high impact weight training, but will further develop his strength along with mindset of a warrior seldom seen in the Major Leagues. If Glazer’s past performers are any indication of success, look for Ryan Rowland-Smith to be abusing sluggers in the National League deep into October.

For those of us in the dugout this season, we can eat up innings like the Astro’s hurler using Jay Glazer’s Perfect punch in the privacy of our own homes with plenty of professional instruction from Jay. Each Perfect Punch comes with Jay Glazer’s Total Body Workout DVD and an added advanced resistance power band. We can workout in just 15 minutes a day without a trip to spring training but still train like the pros.
