I’ve been monitoring the MMA Workouts of Marcedes Lewis of the Jacksonville Jaguars because I love the Jags. I was hoping that he would be ready to take over the core receiving responsibilities from his Tight End position because he is so athletic.

Well for the first time this offseason I heard a couple of talking heads on ESPN wondering the same thing. They both felt that the idea of having a #1 receiver with Marcedes on the team should be a lower priority for next season. They feel that Marcedes has the skill and athletic ability to catch the most balls for the Jags this season and that would be bad news for opposing secondaries because Lewis is 6’6″ 255lbs. A nightmare.

Next, a twitter follower of Jay Glazer, who happens to be doing MMA Workouts with several NFL Players this offseason including Clay Matthews, shawne merriman, Jarrad Page and Kirk Morrison, asked which one of these guys would be the most ready to fight in a real professional contest. Without hesitation Glazer said Lewis.

MMA Workouts have become a phenomenal way for not only the NFL Players to stay in shape during the Lockout, but a way to learn new skills that will translate to field and give them a competitive advantage of other players who have not stepped up their training. MMA Workouts are not for the faint of heart in general and some of the NFL toughest guys look like fools when they hit the cage on day 1 but those who really have desire to get better are able to hang on.

Each athlete Glazer is training this season has commented away from the gym that the workouts are intense and like nothing they have ever done in preparation for football. They all agree that the training is completely different regarding weight training, mental focus and body transformation. Each position requires different skills to be effective on the field and Jay Glazer shows each guy how to dominate their positions with MMA Skills.

For Example, Running Backs need to hit the holes hard and with their knees coming up high. Glazer works on kicks and exercises that develop the hips. Lineman need leverage, the ability twist and knock the hands of the opposing lineman away. Glazer has drills for all which not only push the players bast their breaking point physically, they give them real fighting moves to punish the opposition for 4 quarters. This training is new to the NFL and will clearly create a situation where guys who have jumped on the bandwagon might look a little slow and frail on week 1.

So as one of Glazer’s prize pupils in their MMA Workouts, Marcedes Lewis appears to be the most fit Tight End going into 2011 and watching his MMA Workouts shows clear improvement in how he controls his body. He is going punish people who try and bring him down and I believe he will have tons of YAC yards this season. Can’t Wait Marcedes!

MMA Trainer and FOX Sports personality Jay Glazer is working with MLB pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith to sure up his spot in the Astro’s Starting Rotation for the upcoming season.

Rowland-Smith was signed by the Astros in December after the lefty was non-tendered by the Seattle Mariners. Their loss is definitely the Astros gain, because Rowland-Smith is storming back from his 2009 Bicep injury and his 2010 lower back problem which landed him on the DL.

Glazer is quickly becoming known for his ability to change a player’s mental approach to their sports. He trains them to think like cage fighters whose only way to victory is destroy the will of their opponents. When the cage door closes there is only one way out as the victor. Rowland-Smith’s training has been nothing less then fierce and thanks to MMA training, his size won’t be the only thing intimidating the opposition.

Rowland-Smith’s conditioning regiment will serve him well throughout the season. Seldom has a pitcher dedicated himself to off season workout which will so thoroughly ready his body for so much more than is required to start every 5th day. Clay Matthews of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers recently said about Jay Glazer’s MMA training, “you’re not putting 405lbs on your back, squatting, putting all that pressure on your back, your knees, your joints. You know with this right here I feel my body transforming without using weights, in ways that I haven’t seen before.” Matthews is one of the toughest guys in the NFL and now understands how training as a fighter gives him a competitive advantage over his peers.

For Ryan Rowland-Smith, this perhaps, will be even more effective since this type of training won’t expose that golden arm to the rigors of high impact weight training, but will further develop his strength along with mindset of a warrior seldom seen in the Major Leagues. If Glazer’s past performers are any indication of success, look for Ryan Rowland-Smith to be abusing sluggers in the National League deep into October.

For those of us in the dugout this season, we can eat up innings like the Astro’s hurler using Jay Glazer’s Perfect punch in the privacy of our own homes with plenty of professional instruction from Jay. Each Perfect Punch comes with Jay Glazer’s Total Body Workout DVD and an added advanced resistance power band. We can workout in just 15 minutes a day without a trip to spring training but still train like the pros.

On the eve of the big game I see more focus on Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers than any other other player on the team. Yes Aaron Rodgers is getting the usual headlines leading up to Sunday, but t’s Matthew’s killer instinct which is being highlighted by sports fans. The interesting thing is who these fans are. They are not Packer fans and may not even be football fans. They are MMA fans. That’s Mixed Martial Arts for those readers who are as new to the sport as I am.

I like my football players to train like football players. You know, smashing into tackling dummies, stepping through tires and lifting heavy stuff. But traditional training might just be a thing of the past. Why? Because of Clay Matthews.

Arguably the best defensive player in the entire NFL, Matthews stepped up his game with some unusual off season training methods and it may have changed things forever. He has acquired a real competitive advantage over other player by developing new skills and the rest of the league will soon have to do the same thing just to keep pace. Perhaps many of us would consider MMA training a rather unorthodox way for a football player to get better at football, but upon closer inspection, it makes a lot of sense.

Clay Matthews was introduced to MMA training by FOX sports commentator and celebrity MMA trainer Jay Glazer. Matthews joined Glazer for off season workouts after last season, and to hear Matthews talk about how his new skills have changed the way he approaches football is inspiring. To hear Glazer talk about it, well, makes it sound like the most obvious thing in the world. Why would anyone in the NFL train any other way?

So with Matthew’s success in 2010, will we see other NFL guys seek out Jay Glazer’s help? Well the answer is that it has already happened. Glazer’s outfit, MMAthletics, has trained no less than 52 football players. Among them is Matthew’s fellow Packer, running back, Ryan Grant. Grant won’t be playing in Super Bowl XLV due to injury but his workouts with MMAthletics were certainly intense. Glazer himself noted that Grant came all the way to the West Coast to train while guys in the area were not taking full advantage of what is available to them.

But, for the first time, you don’t have to visit Jay Glazer’s gym in California to experience his intense MMA training routine. Glazer has released his mobile training product called the Perfect Punch. Don’t let the fact that it is small and easily transportable fool you. The Perfect Punch is used in Glazer’s studio as part of his total fitness routine and we’ll see it spreading to gyms across America in the near future.

For Fox Sports sideline reporter and perfect punch developer, Jay Glazer, covering the NFL’s biggest game in some of the worst weather conditions in the game’s history is no big deal. Glazer isn’t letting the cold get in the way of his fun. He told D&C of Boston’s Dennis and Callahan Morning Show that he was gonna make snow angles on this 25 degree Dallas day.

Glazer has a lot of reasons to have some fun today because being an NFL insider has got to be one of the coolest jobs on earth. But, although covering sports is his job, Glazer admitted that Mixed Martial Arts was his passion. Now, he’s managed to combine his job with his passion to build relationships with some of today’s top athletes and actually change the way they play the game.

Confused? Don’t Be. Jay Glazer has been training pro athletes for years and it his MMA training methods that have made huge differences in how many star athletes approach their own sports. Several NFL players train with Jay in the off season to not only change their mental approach but to increase their strength, power and technique.

One of his current success stories is Green Bay Packers superstar Clay Matthews. Yep, Matthews credits his off season success to his new MMA training especially when it comes to his hands. Glazer told D&C that he’s made Matthew’s hands violent, and if you watch the video at MMA Athletics, you’ll know exactly what I’m taking about. Football is not just a game of strength because every player is really strong. But the ability to transform strength into super strength and combining it with precise technique, along with a “kill or be killed” attitude can make a huge difference in a player’s on field success.

Minnesota Viking, Jared Allen, lost 25lbs, opened up his hips, got his hands right and went from a 7 sack year to a 15 sack season on the way to a new contract which made him the highest paid Defensive Lineman in the history of the NFL up to that point. Well, success breeds more success and NFL players are lining up to have Glazer help hone their skills. MMA Athletics currently has a stable of 52 NFL players but Glazer’s greatest thrill is being able to bring his MMA Training Routine to the general public through his Perfect Punch and his Total Body Workout DVD. He wants to change the way people train in this country and with the successes of his top level professional athletes he has reason to celebrate.

Jay Glazer guarantees that both men and women can benefit from the Perfect Punch MMA training system, and that it is easy enough for everyone to learn. It is a low impact workout great for dropping weight and improving overall fitness. If MMA fitness training has anything at all to do with Jay Glazer’s high energy and positive attitude, then America is going to eat up the Perfect Punch and have a lot of fun training just like their sports heroes.
